As for others who have posted, it was a shock to me to hear of Dave’s death. Like Zoe, also a dear friend, I met Dave in my first year at St John’s, York. I was in A block and he was in B ! We were also on the same course English lit and American studies. I owe so much to Dave an introduction to cricket, music I would never have listened to ! Films, conversation, going to see John Martin !! I still play songs from the mix tape he made me – check out the men you couldn’t hang – parted from you. But especially, sharing such good times. Fun , laughs, kindness, dodgy cooking ( in our second year with Sam and Rob ! ) and always music. Dave was also one of those really annoying people who literally did no revision, churned out an essay or did an exam and got top marks – he was so insightful and intelligent he didn’t need to slog like the rest of us ! I was so thrilled when Zoe and Dave got together, they were so right and it was a privilege to be a witness at their wedding. I treasure my time at St Johns and Dave was a huge part of this – a special, special person. I know we hadn’t been in touch for years but I still consider Dave as a true valued friend. Wherever you are Dave, keep sharing your music, films, love, kindness it was truly an honour to share our few years as friends.
